In North Carolina, DWLR is a class 1 misdemeanor, which can carry a sentence of up to one-hundred twenty (120) days in jail. Furthermore, if convicted of a DWLR, your license will be revoked for a period of one (1) year. It also carried eight (8) insurance points, which can increase your premiums by 195%. Additional convictions of DWLR can cause permanent revocation of your driver’s license. Furthermore, paying off any moving violation while your driver’s license is revoked will cause further revocation of your license. The first moving violation causes a one (1) year revocation. The second moving violation conviction causes a two (2) year revocation. The third moving violation conviction that occurs while your license is already revoked causes permanent revocation.
